VolcanoNow text and call alerts

VolcanoNow is an iOS app by Bababoi Lab that tracks the activity of Kīlauea volcano in Hawaiʻi. Text alerts, and the automated voice call that follows them, are optional and only sent to people who sign up for them in the app.

How people opt in

  1. In the VolcanoNow app, the user signs in and opens Alerts → New alert.
  2. They pick the days they will be near Kīlauea and enter their own mobile number under Text + call.
  3. They tap the subscribe button. Directly under the button the screen says:
By subscribing, you agree to receive VolcanoNow alert texts and automated alert calls at this number on the days you picked. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of both, HELP for help.

Opting in is not required to use the app or to buy anything. Phone numbers are never purchased, imported or shared. No one is texted or called without completing these steps.

What we send

When Kīlauea begins erupting (lava fountaining starts), each subscriber gets one text, followed by an automated voice call reading the same alert. Only on the days the user picked, and at most one alert every 12 hours. Typically a few messages per month. No marketing or promotional content. Example:

VolcanoNow: Kīlauea is erupting. Lava fountaining has begun. Reply STOP to opt out.

Opting out and help

Reply STOP to any message to stop all texts and calls, or cancel the alert in the app under Alerts. Reply HELP for help, or email support@bababoi.app. Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
